OUR PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Crested Butte Devo’s primary programming takes place during our school break each summer, and we also offer fall after-school opportunities for middle school students and a High School race team for our oldest athletes. In 2026 we kick off on June 15th with our last day of summer programs on August 14th.
Our full-summer timeline enables our coaching team to help athletes develop skills both on and off the bike, working their their way through our sequential, progressive curriculum, with each day together spent both learning new but also helping ensure mastery of those introduced previously.
What is the most important factor in deciding whether or not CB Devo is the right fit for your child? STOKE! Do they LOVE to ride bikes? If they do, they’re motivated to learn, and they love having fun, we’re likely a great fit.
GROUPS & GRADE-BASED MODEL
PLEASE NOTE: To establish groups of well-matched riding partners, Crested Butte Devo uses a grade-based grouping model where athletes ride with their same-grade peers from school. Without going too deep here (though we’re happy to chat about it any time!), there are a number of other youth cycling programs who have shown tremendous success in keeping athletes with their friends and that collectively they help lift one another up the development ladder. Kids want to do what their friends are doing, and for us, the ability to help them forge fast friendships by overcoming challenges out on two wheels is also hugely rewarding. At a certain age, some groups become blended into cohorts based upon ability levels, mindful of appropriate social situations, but 99% of the time, from k-7, we keep groups built by school grade as of the fall ahead. If you have any questions or would like us to consider your child for a different group, please email us.
HOW DO I SIGN UP??
CB Devo has moved our registration platform to Sawyer for 2026. With this change, all families (new and returning) will need to set up a new account. It’s a quick and easy process with Sawyer and helps ensure that all of our information on file (contacts, medical, emergency, etc) is refreshed. Thank you for your help!
February 1st–February 28th
February 1st-February 28th: Registration is open for all returning athletes, and applications for new athletes are accepted. Existing Athletes – please complete your summer registration by February 28th to guarantee your spot and to ensure that we have the ability to accurately open spots for new athletes. Late applications received after February 28th will be availability based.
March 1st
March 1st: New athletes and families are notified of acceptance or wait list status based upon availability and group composition. Please know that our goal is to accommodate all interested athletes but that group sizes, rider-coach ratios, and our land use agreements only allow a limited number of participants.
April 15th
April 15th; Summer 2026 Registration closes. If you missed registration, don’t despair… Email us and we’ll see what we can do.
First things first, when you get to Sawyer you need to sign up for a free “membership” to CB Devo. If you are an existing family, HERE is a direct link. If you are a new family, click HERE. Think of this as your athlete application in the past. This is where you (the parent) will input important information we need to have on file (contact information, medical, emergency, allergies, etc) and accept all of our policies and terms and conditions.
EXISTING ATHLETES: We will receive a notification when you “purchase” your athlete application and you will receive an email within 48 hours once your membership has been approved… at this point you can register your athlete(s) for their appropriate grade-based or otherwise approved programs. If your athlete is middle school or above please take a look at all of the elective offerings this season now!
NEW ATHLETES: Within 48 hours you will receive an email with any follow-up questions to help us assess availability, athlete fit and build the most cohesive groups for summer success. By March 1st you will receive notification of approval or wait list status. If you are on the wait list, know that we will be in touch ASAP. Our goal is to get as many kids on bikes as possible! If we are unable to accommodate your athlete in 2026 please know that they will be placed at the top of the list for new applications in 2027.
With the dates for registration earlier this year (hopefully helping families plan their summers and schedules!), and recognizing that we’re all still in full-on winter mode (and winter sports costs aren’t insignificant!) our payment plan offering this year has only a small deposit required to secure your spot. We hope this helps spread out the cumulative financial load that youth sports present to all of us in the valley!
OUR PROGRAMS:
For full program details, pricing, detailed schedules and more, please visit our registration platform, Sawyer. Below is a quick summary of our core offerings:
3-5 year old athletes start with us in our 1 day a week Pre-K program, split into 3-4 year olds and 5/Kinders, and are ready to join us as soon as they can confidently start and stop riding by themselves on a 2 wheeled bicycle without training wheels. We help them develop the confidence and skills needed to take their adventures to the dirt, building the foundation for true mountain biking as they continue developing. For 2026, this program takes place on Mondays from 9-1, starting June 15th and ending on August 10th.
1st graders hit the trails on Wednesdays from 9-1, starting this year on June 17th and ending on August 12th. Building fundamental skills, learning rules of the road and trails, and having a blast with friends is the focus for this group of eager little rippers.
2nd graders step it up to two days a week and the growth this group exhibits each year is truly remarkable. They start stepping it up onto real singletrack and the stoke level gets ratcheted up quickly! These kids work hard out there and their time with us is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-3.
2nd and 3rd grade riders new to Devo or that are looking to keep the commitment a little bit lighter, have the option of joining CB Devo Explorers. Explorers is a perfect on-ramp for those who didn’t start with us at the PreK level and want to check things out, or for kids who have a number of other commitments to balance but still want to fit in some time on the bike. Explorers is a one day a week program on Tuesdays from 9-3 and in addition to a lighter time commitment will have slightly less demanding rides than the normal 2nd or 3rd grade groups. Just as much fun, just as much stoke, but with a bit less intensity.
For 3rd graders and above, programming is 2 days a week from 9-3 and is where you quickly see both a true love for the sport and rider ability grow exponentially. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and our 6th and 7th grade groups ride on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please note in your calendars, this year we will be hosting our 7th grade adventure trip August 11th-13th, and after the huge success of last year’s “Fearless and Fabulous” day celebrating our middle-school aged girls, we’re once again heading out for fun on and off bikes on July 23rd.
CB DEVO DOWNHILL!
CB Devo DOWNHILL! For 2026 we’re continuing to build momentum and stoke for our DH programming at CBMR. Our goal on the mountain is to help riders develop downhill skills at an early age, building their ability as a rider when have the most brain (and body!) plasticity to do so. While some riders are eager to race, others simply love the feeling of flying downhill on a bike and we want to help both groups develop their potential!
- For athletes in grades 3-5 we meet on Tuesdays from 9-3.
- For Grades 6+ we meet on Wednesdays from 9-3.
- Both groups have an optional 2nd day on Fridays, also from 9-3, with race support for all athletes for the CBMR Friday Night Series included.
- Important to note, DH athletes are required to come equipped with a tuned, well fitting dh appropriate bike, full face helmet and goggles or glasses, chest protector, and long fingered gloves. We highly recommend elbow and knee pads. New this year we are stoked be offering optional DH specific adventure trips and a supported race weekend. Full details are on our registration platform HERE.
8TH–12TH GRADE PROGRAMS
In 2026 our 8th-12 grade group programming has more options than ever before allowing our older riders to tailor their CB Devo experience to meet their desires and schedules. With each day splitting into two different groups heading out at different paces, riders will have more ability this year than ever before to ensure that each and every ride fits their hopes and dreams.
- On Tuesdays from 9-1 we will be hosting a “Town Ride Series”, hitting all of the classics accessible on 2 wheels from town like Strawberry, Green Lake, Strand+, Baxter+Carbon, etc. Each ride will have a huge focus on skill development, bike games, and of course FUN. Tuesdays are also a perfect building block ride to ensure riders get in some good mileage in preparation for the Thursday adventure days.
- On Thursdays we will be adventuring out a bit further for the valley’s epics with our “Alpine Ride Series”, often including a shuttle bump to ensure we can hit the rides like Doctors, Crystal/Star/400, 804, Teo+Strand, Deer Creek, and the Monarch Crest. Thursdays will require some solid fitness and stoke for adventure this year!
- We will also be offering a night ride series, an intro to bikepacking trip, and of course the 2nd annual Wheelies ’n Waves Adventure Trip featuring the Monarch Crest, a tour of the Salida valley, and a day rafting Browns Canyon.
FALL PROGRAMMING
Fall Programming. In addition to summer programming CB Devo offers fall programs for our middle school athletes Tuesday-Thursday weekly, getting them out on the trails during one of the best seasons to do so in CB in a flexible format at a low cost. We also host our Colorado League High School Race Team, an amazing opportunity for our High School athletes to compete against riders from around the state in a positive, fun, and team-forward environment.
