Pre K-Grade 2
- A backpack with at least 1 liter of water, plus a small bottle if your athlete’s bike fits one. We don’t return to home base during the day – please insure that the following items fit inside their pack:
- Snacks! Plenty of them!
- Lunch.
- A lightweight rain jacket (even if it doesn’t look like rain!)
- Extra sunscreen.
- A tube that fits your rider’s wheel size.
- An appropriately sized and well-tuned bike with the most efficient wheel size possible. No training wheels at this age. Tires pumped up and chain lubed please!
- Sunglasses & sunscreen are required. Sunglasses protect our eyes from much more than just the sun and living at 9,000 feet is pretty brutal on our skin!!
- Gloves and helmet: A properly fitting helmet and bike gloves are required.
- Good shoes! Riders should wear bike, skate, or tennis shoes. (Please, no open-toed shoes, Crocs, rain boots, or sandals as these types of footwear compromise safety.)
- Note: Coaches will have pumps, tire levers, and basic tools, however each rider should carry a spare tube specific to their wheel size.
Grades 3-5
- A backpack with at least 1.5 liters of water, plus a small bottle if your athlete’s bike fits one. In that pack, please include:
- Snacks! Plenty of them!
- Lunch.
- A lightweight rain jacket (even if it doesn’t look like rain!)
- Extra sunscreen.
- A tube that fits your rider’s wheel size.A hydration pack with at least 1.5 liters of water plus a small water bottle for longer rides is required.
- An appropriately sized and well-tuned bike with the most efficient wheel size possible. If your child can safely fit on a 24″ bike it will make things SO much easier…bigger wheels just go faster and get over the rocks smoother. Tires pumped and chain lubed please!
- A lightweight rain jacket for all types of unpredictable mountain weather. Even if it doesn’t look like rain!:)
- Sunglasses & sunscreen are required. Sunglasses protect our eyes from much more than just the sun and living at 9,000 feet is pretty harsh on our skin!!
- A properly fitting helmet and bike gloves are required. Knee pads are optional.
- Good shoes! Riders should wear bike, skate, or tennis shoes. (Please, no open-toed shoes, Crocs, rain boots, or sandals as these types of footwear compromise safety.)
- Note: Coaches will have pumps, tire levers, and basic tools, however each rider should carry a spare tube specific to their wheel size.
Grades 6+
- A hydration pack and/or bottles with at least 2.5 liters of water/electrolyte drink in total is required. For these athletes ride length varies by day. At this age your riders should have a good sense of what they need, but we always recommend erring on the high side…
- In that pack:
- A lightweight rain jacket for the unpredictable mountain weather.
- A repair kit with at least one tube, a pump, tire levers, mulit-tool, and a chain specific quick-link.
- Map! Optional but great additions are a Lat 40 Map of the Gunnison-Crested Butte area as well as a compass.
- Extra Sunscreen
- An appropriately sized and well-tuned bike with at least 26” wheels is mandatory. Tires pumped and chain lubed please!
- A properly fitting helmet and bike gloves are REQUIRED! Knee pads are optional.
- Sunglasses with appropriate lenses for the day’s conditions.
- Mountain Bike Shoes! At this age level, in the interest of safety and progression, it is appropriate to require that all riders in these groups wear bike specific flat pedal shoes or run clipless pedals. No toe-clips and no clipless shoes on flat pedals will be allowed.
- Note: Coaches will have pumps, tire levers, and basic tools, however each rider should carry any items specific to their steed.
CB Devo DOWNHILL!
- A day-pack to stay at the yurt with at least 2.5 liters of water/electrolyte drink. These kids charge out there and it can be HOT on the mountain.
- In that pack:
- A lightweight rain jacket for the unpredictable mountain weather.
- A repair kit with at least one tube, a pump, tire levers, a derailleur hanger, multi-tool and a chain specific quick-link.
- Extra Sunscreen
- Glasses / Goggles cleaner
- An appropriately sized and well-tuned bike with at least 26” wheels is mandatory. While not mandatory, your rider will definitely have more fun on a full suspension rig. Tires pumped and chain lubed please!
- A properly fitting full-face helmet, full finger bike gloves, a chest/back protector and full DH pads are REQUIRED for all gravity program participants.
- Sunglasses/Goggles with appropriate lenses for the day’s conditions. An extra pair is recommended.
- Mountain Bike Shoes! At this age level, in the interest of safety and progression, it is appropriate to require that all riders in these groups wear bike specific flat pedal shoes or run clipless pedals. No toe-clips and no clipless shoes on flat pedals will be allowed.
