Able to ride a push bike (Strider), but has not yet ridden a pedal bike.
Able to ride a pedal bike on paved surfaces. Progressing towards stability, steering, shifting, speed control and stopping (coaster or hand brake).
Confident steering, shifting and controlling speed/stopping with hand brake(s) on paved surfaces. Progressing towards dirt roads and beginner singletrack with wide, firm and stable tread surfaces (e.g. Deli Trail, Woods Walk, Lower Loop).
Confident riding dirt roads and beginner singletrack. Progressing towards intermediate singletrack with mostly stable tread surfaces, easy/moderate grades and small size trail features/obstacles (e.g. Tony’s, Lupine 1 & 2, Seven Bridges, Upper Lower/Budd).
Confident riding intermediate singletrack with easy/moderate grades and small size trail features. Progressing towards advanced-intermediate singletrack with variable tread surfaces, moderate/strenuous grades and medium size trail features/obstacles (e.g. Strand Hill/Bonus/Canal, 401, Snodgrass, Hartman Rocks).
Confident riding advanced-intermediate singletrack with moderate/strenuous grades and medium size trail features. Progressing towards advanced singletrack with widely variable tread surfaces, long strenuous grades and large size trail features/obstacles (e.g. Doctor’s Park, Teocalli Ridge, Reno/Flag/Bear, 403,).
Confident riding advanced singletrack with long strenuous grades and large size trail features. Progressing towards most advanced single track with widely variable and unpredictable tread surfaces, long extreme grades and highly technical trail features/obstacles (e.g. Starr Pass/400, 409.5, Waterfall Creek).
